Zimbabwe Football Association has provisionally suspended a member of its executive committee, Mr. Edzai Kasinauyo, over match-fixing allegation.
Consequently, it has informed the Confederation of African Football (CAF)of its action with CAF promising to investigate the allegation after consulting with FIFA.
CAF in a statement on its website on Wednesday said that in consultation with FIFA, it would commence immediate investigation of the said allegation, re-affirming its commitment towards elimination of any threat to football, be it match-fixing or betting.
“We reaffirm the commitment of the CAF President and the Executive Committee to eliminate any threat that will influence the integrity of the game on the continent, either through match fixing or illegal betting,” CAF said.
CAF said that the investigation has become imperative because,“The facts reported are very serious and CAF has noted the precautionary measure taken by the Zimbabwe Football Association, whilst opening a serene investigation into the case in respect of the rule of law.”
Zimbabwe Football Association had on March 8, 2016 informed CAF that it had suspended Kasinauyo based on information available to it.
It said that evidence available included affidavits, emails, audio recordings, relating to the business to manipulate the results of the Day 3 & 4 matches of the AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Swaziland.
