Zamfara Evacuates 21 IDPs From Kalambaina-Sokoto Camp

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said that Zamfara State Government has evacuated 21 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Kalambaina-Sokoto rehabilitation camp.

NEMA Assistant Head, Sokoto Zonal Operations Office, Mr Thickman Tanimu, disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto when he gave update onf activities at the camp.

Tanimu said that the IDPs evacuated by the Zamfara government were part of the 88 new arrivals from Geidam in Yobe, who were brought to the camp on May 15.

He said the remaining 67 IDPs were from Sokoto State and were in the process of being evacuated to their various towns and villages across the 23 local government areas.

“A pregnant IDP gave birth to a baby boy on their way to Sokoto from Yobe, while two other pregnant IDPs who can put to bed anytime from now,’’ he said.  Tanimu said that UNICEF, WHO, Red Cross, Medicins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders), Nigerian Medical Association, Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others, operate in the camp.
