Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his efforts at improving the standard of living of his people.

Obasanjo, who was in transit, paid a courtesy call on the governor.

Also present at the occasion were the Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ali Modu-Sherif, and other top politicians in the country. They converged on Enugu after attending the funeral of the mother of Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.

Addressing the digmitaries, Obasanjo praised the serious issue of governance as it affects the growth of the nation and called on the governors of the 36 states in the country to improve their respective performance in order to give the nation a new lease of life.

“From the reports I get, you are doing well. If out of 36 states of the country you can get one that is doing well, it would be encouraging to continue to work on others to do well and by the time you can get up to 50 per cent of the states doing well, it would mean the country would be better. So, keep it up,” the former president told the governor.
