The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State chapter, has appealed to the state government, well-meaning individuals and philanthropists to come to its aid in renovating and protecting the Press Centre from destruction by windstorm and gully erosion which are threatening the viability of the structures.

Chairman of the union in the state, Comrade Yusuf Alhaji Isa, made the appeal during inspection on the damage caused by the two forces of nature.

According to him, the windstorm is a perennial phenomenon that recently pulled off the roofing zincs on all the buildings. “These were replaced but the windstorm strucked back and removed the zincs while the gully erosion had already pulled down part of the northern and southern wall fencing and continues to deepen and widen with every rainy season; this is very frustrating indeed,” Isa said.

He explained that the union is equally willing to allocate portions of the vast land for business ventures to those who wish so as to make the Press Centre more viable. vThe NUJ Secretariat is located along Gashua Road in Damaturu, the state capital.
