World Heart Day: KHF, Vikram Hospital, Offer Free Health Screening

More Nigerians will benefit from free heat and kidney screening organized by Kanu Heart Foundation  and Vikram Hospital India to mark this year’s World Heart Day.

According to organisers of the programme, the three-day event, September 28-30, 2015 features normal free heart and kidney screening, health walk and a Continuous Medical Education (CMD) .

Coordinator, Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF), Pastor Onyebuchi Abia disclosed that the programmed is a yearly event by the foundation aimed at offering more opportunities for the public to undergo free medical screening and consultations with medical experts from India in the area of heart and kidney.

“ we are organizing an International Health summit to mark this year’s World Heart Day. We are partnering with Vikram Hospital India, and Christ the King Catholic Hospital Akowonjo Lagos. We are offering free heart and kidney screenings on the spot and those identified with heart or kidney problems above their capacity to manage would be given an opportunity of KHF free Surgery Initiative, through which the foundation has operated successfully, 498 patients”.

Abia stated that on the opening day, there would also be a health walk from the venue at CKC Hospital followed by lectures on: “ Healthy Heart choices for every one everywhere “to be presented by the Permanent Secretary Lagos State Ministry of Health , Dr. Omodele Joyce Osunkiyesi.

The coordinator disclosed that over 1,000 people are expected to receive medical attention during the progremmed. While Inspire Nurses network are expected to be on the spot to offer voluntary medical assistance to the Indian Doctors. “The major objective is to identify those that have serious cases and they would be referred to India for treatments or surgery.

On the CMD, Abia said the workshop to be held at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja, is for every one interested in knowing more about his health but particularly as a resource Education programme for medical workers. “A cardiology from Vikram Hospital would lecture on Intervention cardiology and it is open for all medical workers”.
