Woman, Others Escape Death As School Bus Rams Into Abuja Market

An elderly woman and other shop owners nearly met their untimely death when a school bus rammed into a provision shop at the popular Kubwa market, in Bwari Area Council of the FCT on Tuesday.

An eye witness told Daily Independent that the driver of the bus was coming from the NYSC orientation camp axis when he lost control and swerved off the road, and crashed into the shop.

He said the vehicle a woman who was buying some items from the shop in the back, leaving her with serious injuries.

“The driver had earlier knocked down a woman walking along the road with her baby before finally crashing into the shop” one of them said.

According to the witness, the driver immediately jumped out of the bus and took to his heels, adding that the victim was rushed to a private hospital for medical attention. Speaking to our reporter, the owner of the shop, one Mrs. Amaka Isaac said she was away when the incident happened, but said she lost goods worth millions of naira, including the part of the shop’s wall that was damaged.

“I left my daughter in the shop to go and pick something at home, but before I could come back, I met my shop in shambles.

“The car damaged twenty creates of egg, 87 loaves of bread and some other items in front of my shop” she lamented.

When contacted, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Nurrudeen Sabo, said the suspect has been arrested and investigation had commenced.
