Warri Wolves striker, Okikimusampa Onomuefe has said the team still in contention for qualification to the next stage of the CAF Champions League. Wolves lost 0-1 to Al-Merrikh in the second round first leg fixture on Sunday at the Warri City Stadium.
The reverse fixture holds at the weekend at Al-Merrikh fortress, Al-Merrikh Stadium in Omdurman.
Onomuefe said that the players have learnt their mistakes and would correct them in the second leg.
“The 0-1 loss to Al-Merrikh on Sunday was a huge shock to us but we have decided to get it right in Omdurman. Nigerians should not write us off on the basis of the home loss as we can still go ahead to defeat them right there at their backyard,” he said, adding they played well in the first leg, that the Sudanese were not spectacular or better.
“We created chances but were not able to convert them they had one chance and made it count positively. We have learnt our lesson and will make the necessary amendment to qualify for the next stage of the competition. It looks cloudy and daunting at the moment but we are determined to spill blood if need be to achieve our goal,” said the former Kano Pillars marksman tosupersport.com.
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side will leave on Wednesday to Omdurman, Sudan for the make or break clash at the weekend. Wolves must score goals and avoid conceding to chance progressing to the next stage of Africa’s first tier club competition.
