LAGOS – Wahab Bankole, the media officer of Sunshine Stars of Akure, is upbeat that his side would come back from the mid season break better and fully poised to challenge for the leadership of the table.

Bankole, who spoke to Independent on Friday, said he was sure the former CAF Champions League semi finalist will not disappoint in the second stanza, even as he praised the efforts and mentality of the players in the first part of the league.

“We are going to consolidate when the league resumes,” he said. “You will remember that we started very poorly and later picked up. That is the mentality of a great side. Winning is our mentality.

“The only thing we are asking our fans is to continue in their unalloyed support to this team because we are aiming to return to the continent,” he said.

When reminded that this year’s NPFL camping has seemed most competitive and challenging, the image maker waved that aside, saying:

“We are not perturbed; all the teams have equal chances and I am very sure Sunshine will be among the pacesetters when the second stanza starts.”

The club’s renaissance after the poor start culminated to it pulling a surprise victory over Abia Warriors in Umuahia in one of the week 19 matches, with Olorundare scoring the last-minute goal to hand the Akure side all the three points after the home team came from behind twice. The match ended 3-2.

Sunshine is on 27 points from 18 matches and is placed 6th on the league table.
