Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers has urged the state judiciary to ensure efficient justice delivery, being the last hope of the common man.

Swearing-in Justice Christy Gabriel-Nwankwo as the President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt on Monday, Wike urged members of the bench to work toward greater stability in the judiciary.

The governor said that it would be wrong and unfair not to be proactive in dispensing justice, stressing that it would amount to killing the hope of the common man.

He urged the judiciary, especially the bench, to be aware of its duties to ensure effective justice delivery at all times.

“ It is your duty to ensure equitable dispensation of justice and stability in the judicial system so that peoples’ rights under the law are protected,’’ he said.

The governor urged the new Customary Court of Appeal president to exercise her responsibility with utmost sincerity and dedication.

“The responsibilities that come with this office are enormous; the meaning is that if the responsibilities are well discharged, the citizenry will be happy.

“The hope of the common man is in your hands, discharging your duties without fear or favour will be a wonderful service to the state,’’ Wike said.
