Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Rivers State Governor,  has kicked off development  of  the  Greater Port  Harcourt  City with the official commissioning of  the  Development Authority Head Office on Friday.

He said: “With the operational base of the Authority now in the new city, we will experience a faster pace of development in the area as we are committed to developing  an international  city that would be the pride of the people of the state.
“I am happy that the Board and Management of Greater Port Harcourt City Development  Authority  have lived up to expectations of the people by completing  a state of the art headquarters  that would encourage  investors  to put their money in the area.”
The  governor said  that his administration  would  promote  public-private partnership  as a means  of  fast-tracking  development  of  the  new city.
He called on  the  Board and  Management  of  the  new city to accommodate  their host communities  in Ikwerre and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas for the  project to gain the required  acceptance.
Chief Ferdinand Alabrabra, Chairman, Greater Port Harcourt Authority, commended the governor for providing the  guidance that has  accelerated development  of  the new city.
Ambassador Desmond Akawor, Sole Administrator, Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, said several companies had made proposals to commence massive development of the new city.
