In line with his programs and policies, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has assured the people of the state that his administration will construct critical access roads to strategic towns in the state with a view to developing the state’s economy.
Commenting  on  the  state’s  2016 budget passed by the Rivers  State  House of Assembly  and signed into law by him, Governor  Wike  said  the  people of  the  state  will witness enhanced  development  of  road infrastructure  which will touch all senatorial  districts of the state.
In a statement issued by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, the governor said that all construction of road infrastructure are geared towards the empowerment of the people.
“As we all know the provision of transport infrastructure is critical to the socio-economic advancement of any nation. Accordingly, in 2016 we intend to complete all on-going road projects and kick-start the construction of the Trans-Kalabari road network, the dualization of Ahoada – Omoku road as well as Bori Sapkenwa road.
“We shall also continue with the construction of inner city roads in Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor and the headquarters of other local government areas.  Accordingly, over 53 billion naira is provided for the infrastructure development sub-sector”.
The  governor  stressed  that  the  sustained renewal of  the state’s   road infrastructure  will ensure that headquarters  of different  local government  areas  are accessible  by road to enhance the transport of agricultural  produce and other economic  activities  in all the council headquarters.
“Given the scarcity of public resources and the huge gap in the State’s infrastructure needs, we will use the public private partnership arrangement to mobilize private sector resource for infrastructure development, especially in the areas of roads construction, power generation, education, healthcare and other viable projects”.
Wike  said that his administration  through the  necessary  political  will and the prudent  management  of  resources  has reached  unprecedented  heights in the provision  of  road infrastructure  in Port-Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Eleme, Ikwerre  and Oyigbo  Local Government Areas  in the first phase of  Urban Renewal Programme in the  last seven months.
