Why Water Scarcity, Others Pesist In Ebonyi

Ebonyi State’s Commissioner for

Public Utilities, Mr. Ben Okah,  on Monday, May 18, 2015, said that the failure of the outgoing Governor Martin Elechi-led administration to secure its sought N15 billion bond   almost crippled the government.

He said that some of the operations of the government, ongoing

projects were negatively affected by lack of funds though said that the

administration had laid solid foundation for the incoming


Okah, who spoke in his office, pointed out that there were arrangements to pump water from the Oferekpe and the Ezillo water facilities to save the people from the hardship

occasioned by the scarcity of water.

The commissioner explained that electricity supply to the Ezillo

scheme was cut due to some issues with the Enugu Electricity

Distribution Company (EDDC), noting that the issue had been resolved

hence they could commence water supply from the plant.

On the suspected failure of the multi-billion naira Oferekpe water

scheme, he said that the facility was in good state of which they were during the weekend, supplying diesel for pumping of water from the


He said that the outgoing government could have done more in the full

completion of its infrastructure projects had the bond been realized,

noting that political issues could have bordered the realisation of

the funds for more projects execution.
