Warri Wolves is optimistic of qualifying for the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup despite walking a tight rope going into the second leg billed for Kinsasha.

The Seasiders defeated MK Etancheite 2-1 in the second round first leg game on Saturday with Gbolahan Salami scoring a brace.

According to media officer of the Warri based outfit, Moses Etu, hopes are not lost as the Wolves would show they are equal to the task when they face Etancheite in the return leg in a fortnight.

He said their game formation was affected after news got to them that Michael Egbeta was declared ineligible to play because of card accumulation and had to be removed at the last minute.

“The game was very tough for us. We had our chances but only took two and when we ought to have closed up proceedings we allowed them to claw their way back into the match,” Etu told Goal.

“We still have a lot to play for and no one should assume that we have been eliminated. We are fighters and we shall go to Kinshasa hoping to get that decent result that will ensure we book a place in the playoff round.”

No Nigerian club has qualified for the group stage of any Caf Club competitions since 2012 when Sunshine Stars got to the semi final of the CAF Champions League before they were eliminated by Al Ahly of Egypt 4-3 on aggregate.
