Five suspected cultists, three girls and two boys were arrested on Friday, July 10, 2015, while robbing passers-by at Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Luck was said to have ran out on them when a local vigilance team that was plying the road suspected their action and stopped to know their identity.

As the vigilance team stopped, it was gathered that one of the cultists opened fire on them but could not succeed in harming them though the bullet pierced through the clothes of one of them.

In retaliation, the vigilance operative reportedly fired back, shot him on one of his legs, but he escaped with the bullet wound.

His four other accomplices, three girls and a boy, were consequently arrested and two guns, a British-made and one locally made pistols were recovered from them.

Confirming the incident, the Commander, Idemili North and South Surveillance Squad, Mr. Arthur Ilongwu, told newsmen that the run-away cultist, who shot one of his boys was later arrested in Ojoto in Idemili South council where he had gone for a medical treatment because of the bullet wound he sustained during the exchange of fire between his boys and the cultists.

He lamented that Obosi for now has become notorious area for cultism, adding that the arrested cultists had been handed over to the Anti-Cult Squad at Enugwu-Ukwu.

He disclosed further that some youths few days to the arrest of the five cultists, were initiated into cultism by the arrested cult gang.

According to Ilongwu, the new members are being hunted to ensure that the number of cultists is drastically curtailed in Obosi and environs.
