Yesterday was Children’s Day and International Media giant, Viacom, decided to support one of Africa’s leading NGOs, Sesôr . The two bodies joined forces to help out Internally Displaced children living around the Lekki /Ajah area of Lagos State.

Speaking at the excercise, Ier Ichaver, the founder of Sesôr  said, “The Viacom team came to have their annual Community Day service as part of an international Viacom event at a community in Lekki which has some displaced persons. With Sesôr, the morning was spent cleaning and clearing some communal areas around where some of the IDPs call home. Some of the displaced also joined in.”

The children were not left out either as Viacom community volunteers taught them the importance of daily hand washing, with each child displaying impressive skills.

Sesôr and Viacom also used the opportunity to donate food materials and drinks to the children so that they can also have a great Children’s Day. The children who were jumping with joy expressed their heartfelt thanks for the gesture.

Sesôr was founded in 2009 Ier Jonathan-Ichaver was inspired to found Sesôr after her family and her village in the Nyiev-Tiev community in Benue was badly affected by violent conflict with another community in 2009. Sesôr went on to provide relief materials such as food and clothing to affected villagers.

According to her, the NGO’s aim is to empower communities in Nigeria through supporting micro businesses, children and young people’s education, emergency relief support and advocating for workable policies and practices to help improve the lives of Nigerians with local, state and national governments.
