A former lawmaker in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Yahaya Awe, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to use the recovered looted funds retrieved from corrupt public officers to proffer solution to current hunger in the land, as well as improve agriculture and education sector in the country.
The former lawmaker who gave the advice in an interview with Independent in Lafia said, the current hunger in the country, low agricultural production for lack of adequate fertilizer and poor handling of education sector deserve urgent attention.
He said if President Buhari will use part of the money recovered from looters it would go along way in reducing hunger biting the country since the assumption of the APC-led government in the country.
The lawmaker who applauded Buhari’s step towards improving the agriculture sector of the country said, “we learnt that he has opted for agriculture loan in Nigeria; yes, we want him to support small scale farmers to boost agriculture production in Nigeria.
“But what disturbs me is that after retrieving back money from the corrupt public officers we have not had anywhere that Buhari has laid a block from the money he has recovered from looters.
“There are so many roads in Nigeria that are in bad shape; let him embark on one so that Nigeria should know that he has embarked on road projects that Nigerians will benefit instead of sitting on that money,” he pointed out.
Also in his opinion, a Lafia-based analyst Mr. Kagbu Timothy Alibugu said Buhari should use recovered money and those money he has generated from fuel subsidy to create jobs for teeming unemployed youths in Nigeria in order better their living conditions and also reduce restiveness in the country.
According to him, “Buhari should not forget his campaign promises that if Nigerians voted for him his government would give N5000 stipend to unemployed youths to better their lot. Let him use the recovered money to help them since he has no plans to embark on any projects on that money,” he said.
