A former Governorship aspirant in Delta State during the last election, Prince Obaro Unuafe, has called for the declaration of state of emergency in the oil sector.

Speaking with Daily Independent on the prolonged fuel scarcity and the hike in the price of the product he said fuel scarcity in Nigeria was the creation of a cartel and not until the cartel was broken, the scarcity problem would not be resolved.

According to him, Nigeria is playing politics with fuel scarcity and wondered why the nation should be importing fuel.

“Why is it that our refineries are not working since 30 years? Then there were no issue of fuel scarcity. They were functioning. I think in order to address the problem once and for all, a deliberate efforts should be made to fix our refineries.’’

On the state of emergency, he said the Federal Government should set up a directorate that would ensure that some persons were used as examples through the law by sending them to jail.

He said Nigerians have invested their franchise in our leaders but what they got in return was suffering as they queued up to buy fuel at outrageous prices.

While expressing surprise over the sudden rise in fuel prices towards the hand over date, he opined that reducing of fuel of fuel supply by the marketers “was a misplace priority because when you deregulate a system like oil sector, you should allow the system to run on its own by completely removing your hand”.
