Unpaid Salaries: Osun Judge Calls For Impeachment Of Aregbesola

A Judge serving in Osun State Judiciary, Justice Oloyede Folahanmi,  has in a petition to the state House of Assembly asked for the impeach of Gov Rauf Aregbesola  over the linger issue of unpaid salaries in the state.

This is just as the National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Barr. Kayode Ajulo, on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to take over the running of governments in Osun and Benue states.

Osun and Benue are among the states owing salaries to workers due to financial constraint gripping some states.

The judge is urging the State House of Assembly to impeach Gov Rauf Aregbesola and his deputy, Titi Laoye-Tomori, on the ground of their inability to perform their statutory responsibilities.

The Judge in a petition to the Lawmakers, said that the duo ought not to continue in office in Osun based on their inability to pay workers salaries, pensions and gratuities.

He urged the House of Assembly and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate allegations of financial recklessness against Aregbesola, Tomori and others.

And in a statement issued in Lagos, Ajulo said that the federal government should not shy away from taking over the administration of those two states immediately.

He said that the governors’ actions contravened Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 constitution.

“The situation is very unfortunate, it is inexplicable and I am more particular in what’s happening in Osun State. Imagine owing workers up to 8 months salaries and going to 9 months while some are owed 12 months pension.”
