Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, currently ranks second as most sought for university in Nigeria and that standard can only be improved upon and not the other way round, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ahaneku, has said.

Ahaneku gave the assurance on Monday, June 1, 2015, when his Director of Communications and Marketing, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, took journalists to the vice chancellor’s projects in the university in the past one year.

Ahaneku said that some of the projects he embarked on since assumption of office include institution of Biometric system to ensure that only trainable people who are really desirous of learning gain admission into the university.

Ahaneku said that he was not surprised that the introduction of Biometric system under which 88 impersonators ran away from post- UME examination hall last year while four impersonators were arrested came under a barrage of attack including one from the former Students’ Union president because a lot of people who ate through syndicating were hurt.

Among other things, he said that lecturers of the university must work to mold the students and perform other duties they expected to.

This, he said, included making sure that students semester results are ready within one month of the examinations.

Ahaneku said that his next move was to send results of students to their parents as is done in the past so that parents will know how their wards in the university are fairing.
