Hearing in the leadership tussle rocking the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU), Osogbo, a Category II Facility under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), between the Noble Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, and former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, will begin on Monday, October 12, 2015.

This is however contrary to the claim by Oyinlola-led board of the centre that the court handling the leadership tussle rocking the centre had ruled in its favour.

The notice of hearing obtained from the Federal High Court, Osogbo, revealed that the hearing of the suit with registration number FHC/OS/CS/3/2013 on the leadership tussle on the centre would kick off by 9am on October 12, 2015.

The court order listing the suit for hearing on the date was issued by the court on September 14, 2015, and the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and two others, including the Governor of Osun State, and the Noble Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, are listed as defendants in the suit.

The hearing notice, however, asked all the parties involved to bring forward all the evidence by witnesses or by documents which each of them desires to rely on in support of their case and in contradictions of that of his opponent.

Soyinka was appointed Chairman, CBCIU Board by Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in August, 2012.

Oyinlola was holding forth as the Board Chairman since January 2009 when the centre was commissioned by UNESCO as the category II facility on culture promotion and preservation.

The global body had on October, 2008, endorsed Nigeria’s proposal to host the facility regarded as first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.

What sparked off the controversy was the announcement made by the ‘Oyinlola Board’ to host the second Global Conference of Black Nationalities with the theme: Globalisation and its Effects: Charting a True Course for the Development of the Black Race in Bahia, Brazil, in November, 2015.

The Soyinka group kicked against it, warning the public to disregard the conference as only the ‘Soyinka Board’ had the authority to organize such within and outside the country in the name of the centre.

While reacting to Soyinka’s position, Oyinlola had declared that he was the authentic chairman of the centre.
