Ogoni Joint Youth Leaders Council (OJYLC), a representation of apex youth leaders of the four Local Government Areas of Ogoni land has re-affirmed its support to President Muhammadu Buhari led government over its promise kept on the fast-tracking of the implementation of the United Nations Environmental Program, UNEP study report on Ogoniland.
The group also commended the institutions and persons in the past government at all levels who played key roles in the fast track of the UNEP study process that culminated into the report. Without the successful study that produced the report, “we will not be talking about implementation”.
In a statement signed by Comrade Friday Mgbihoro, Chairman, Ogoni Joint Youth Leadership Council in Port Harcourt, Rivers capital on Thursday said the group appreciates the role of all in the persistent appeal for the implementation of the report by the Buhari government.
“We the leadership of the youth constituency would appeal for a synergy that should encourage further directives and actions needed to commence the process in record time, thus the group condemns in strong terms the recent statement credited to National Youth Council Ogoni People (NYCOP) casting aspersions on the presidency for using delay in implementation to coarse Ogonis to join the ruling party”,
The Youth council however said it dissociated itself from the statement and called for caution since Ogonis like any other tribes freely and willingly choose parties of their choice and would be ill-conceived and vexatious to bring partisan sentiments in the appeal for UNEP implementation. “Comments like that can stall genuine intentions for speedy implementation”.
The statement added that the Ogoni Youths would be the major beneficiaries of the implementation through job creation and would not watch this life time opportunity slaughtered on the altar of partisan interest and other mundane reasons.
It expresses unalloyed commitment and support to the entire process of implementation and any other people-oriented policies and programmes of government. It calls on the youth to shun rumors, suspicions and other vices but be committed to peace and development of the Ogoniland.
