Unemployment: Buhari Pledges To Train Youths In Relevant Skills

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has pledged to tackle the scourge of unemployment plaguing the country through the training of youths in relevant skills to make them acceptable in the labour market.

Buhari  made the pledge on Monday in Abuja at a symposium organised by Buhari Volunteers Network with the theme “Maximising the potentials of Nigerian Youth as economic drivers for a secure nation in the next dispensation,” said the welfare of the Nigerian youth would occupy a pride of place in the scheme of things in his administration.

The President –elect represented by a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Pace University, New York, Mohammed Garba, said his in-coming administration would put mechanisms in place to tackle headlong the nagging issue of youth unemployment.

Buhari who described the youth as the next generation of leaders, urged  them to be focused, discipline, hard working and dedicated to the growth of the nation.

He also assured that his administration would create an enabling environment for the creation of jobs in all sectors of the economy.

He acknowledged the enormous support of the youth during the electioneering campaigns, which has enabled  him to emerge as the  President-elect, promising  that he would not let them down.

He further explained that Information and communication Technology would be explored in the onerous task  of job creation, noting that his administration would adopt various measures to gainfully engage the youth.

Also speaking, the former Vice Chancellor of Abukakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Prof. Abubakar Sambo, called on the President-elect , to as a matter of urgency, reverse the privatisation of Power Holding Company of Nigeria[PHCN] on assumption of office in May 29,2015.

He identified corruption and ineptitude as being responsible for worsening state of power sector, in spite of the billions of dollars  invested.

Sambo lamented the dismal performance of the 11 Power Distribution Companies that signed agreements with the Federal Government on the unbundling of PHCN.

He identified the insecurity, epileptic power supply and corruption as greatest challenges confronting the nation, urging the in-coming administration to take drastic measures to restore sanity in these areas.

The don advised the incoming administration to ensure that the energy mix goes from two , that is, gas and hydro to the use of solar, wind, coal, uranium, bio-mass to boost electricity in the country.
