Umuahia, Abia agog as residents jubilate over Ikpeazu’s victory

The two cities of Umuahia and Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State went agog as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the rerun April 25 governorship election, Dr. Okezie Ikepazu, was returned as the elected governor of the State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Reports had it that soon after the declaration of Dr Victor Ikpeazu as the governor-elect, there was wild jubilation across the State especially at Obingwa/Aba North/South as well as Osisioma, Isiala

Ngwa North/ South and Ukwa East/ West Council Areas.

In Umuahia, there was sporadic shooting of fireworks as soon as the result was announced between 4:47am, as party supporters and residents danced round the streets jubilating the victory of Dr. Ikpeazu, whom they described as being truly God sent in the State.

Declaring the governorship rerun election result at the INEC State Secretariat in Umuahia  amidst tight security, the Returning Officer for the State, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba said that Ikpeazu of

the PDP having scored the highest number of votes and met all INEC requirements is thereby declared elected.
