The wife of Ebonyi State governor, Mrs. Rachel Umahi, has flagged off her pet project, “Family Succour and Upliftment Programme (FSUP),” pledging to address the high poverty rate, poor health situation and education of the girl child.

The FSUP replaced the Mother and Child Care Initiative (MCCI) pet project of her predecessor, Mrs. Josephine Elechi.

The FSUP has four thematic areas bordering on health, education, economic empowerment and youths, as well as women liberation.

The programme, according to Mrs. Umahi, is aimed at achieving an effective and efficient primary healthcare; achieve 100 per cent girl-child education; economic empowerment, job creation for women and youth and to liberate Ebonyi women from all vices against women and ensure the upliftment and enhancement of their general living status.

The project is in partnership with several agencies and organisations including the U.N Economic group led by U.N Women and United Nations Industrials Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Society for Family Health.

According to her, “USFP is part of my effort at using my position as wife of the governor to mainstream certain issues that will improve upon the productivity of our women and youths to reduce the burden of poverty among our people”.
