Tony Jeffery Uduimo, former president of the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN), has promised to support the new board in its bid to redeem the “battered” image of the association.
He said in Abuja that the PGAN before now has lost its glory, just as he assured that the new board under the leadership of Samson Lawal was set to revive the association.
According to Uduimo, who led the association from 2001-2004, “This is a new dawn for PGAN and I will be behind the board for it to succeed.”
He revealed, “Unnecessary politics has marred the image of the association; the PGAN has been turned into a cult instead of an association to develop the game of professional golfers.”
Uduimo, who in his tenure attracted international tournament as the World Cup for PGAN assured, “The credibility of the people in the new board gives me the feelings that things will surely change.”
He emphasised, “This is the time for policies to be implemented; golf is a global game and Nigeria should not be isolated if it must meet the global standard.”
Against this backdrop he said, “I can vouch that in the next couple of months, people will begin to see a vibrant PGAN with lots of activities.”
To realise the new order of PGAN Uduimo said, “There would have to be corporate drive for sponsorship; engage in foreign cooperation to attract quality tournaments that will impact on the standard of the professionals.
“Most importantly, there would have to be regular tournaments and seminars to educate the golfers on the trend of the game and that will help them to be updated,” he concluded.
