There was tragedy in Osogbo, Osun State Capital when two pupils of Ataoja High School who are writing the ongoing West African School Certificate Examination (WASC) drowned on Tuesday evening in Osun River.

The lifeless bodies of the deceased, it was learnt, were discovered inside the river after two days of searching, by a farmer that owns a farm near the river.

The students, Farinde Boluwatife and Adeyemi Tope, were in the Senior Secondary School III Students of Ataoja High School and came to school on Monday for the on-going West African Examination Council, WAEC and even wrote Geography paper that day.

They however went missing few minutes after they finished the paper, prompting the school authority to immediately contacted their mates and relations.

A reliable source said, some mates of the deceased, who knew about their movement later informed the school’s management that they might have gone to swim at River Osun located few metres away from their school.

“We all went in search of them on Monday. Some of us know students usually go to the river located along East bypass to swim. Since that Monday, we have been searching for them but late Tuesday a farmer saw their bodies and alerted the school”, a student, who does not want his name mentioned, said.

Sources said one of the deceased had already been buried, but management of the school they attended, it was gathered, were still unable to locate parent of one the victims as at the time of filing this report.
