Two soldiers, one civilian killed in Bauchi accident

Two soldiers and a civilian were killed in two separate accidents in Bauchi on Sunday. In a fatal motor accident along Azare-Bulkachuwa road in Bauchi State, Zaphaniya Jonathan, a Lance Corporal attached to the 195 Battalion, Nigerian Army in Agenebode, Edo State and one Barrister Umar Abubakar were killed. In the second along Bauchi-Darazo road, a 27-year-old Private, John Emmanuel attached to Sector 1 Baga road in Maiduguri, Borno State was knocked down while crossing the road to ease himself.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in charge of the Bauchi State Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed both incidents.

According to the police the incident along Azare-Bulkachuwa road occurred when the tyre rod of an Opel Sharon driven by one Engineer Ismail Abdullahi pulled out forcing it to skid off the road. The police added that “Two persons where certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor. Particulars of deceased are L/CPL Zaphaniya Jonathan, 195 Battalion, Nigeria Army Aganabode ,Edo State and Barr Umar Abubakar (Legal Practitioner),male and 38 years of Sir Kashim Ibrahim road, Maiduguri, Borno State. Corpses deposited at the mortuary for post-mortem examination.”

According to the Police PPRO, Private Emmanuel who was travelling in a Sharon was killed when he stopped to ease himself when he was hit by another Sharon bus while crossing the road.

He said Private Emmanuel “Private John Emmanuel male and 27 years of Nigeria Army attached to Sector 1 Baga road, Maiduguri, Borno State, who was also a passenger in a Sharon bus with registration number AA 992 KWR stopped to ease himself but was hit by a red Sharon bus with registration number AE 436 PKM while crossing the road.”

According to him the police patrol team attached to Darazo division visited both scenes and rushed the injured to general hospital Darazo for medical attention.

Meanwhile he said the corps of the deceased soldiers have been released to the Army through one Captain Maiwada in charge of the Army Unit in Darazo on request.
