The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, has ordered the arrest and subsequent detention of two police officers, who allegedly assaulted some officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) on Wednedsay at Ikeja Area of Lagos.

Our correspondent gathered that the police officers, whose names were not mentioned, have been detained at the Command headquarters in Ikeja police cell.

They were said to have threatened to deal with the LASTMA officials, who were controlling traffics at Ikeja bus-stop for daring to stop the commercial buses they (the police officers) boarded.

In a related development, the command on Wednesday August 5, 2015, averted what would have been a major civil disturbance at Iyana-Oba bus stop through the timely intervention of the Area Commander in charge of the axis.

Patricia Amadin, Police Public Relations Officer in a press statement on Thursday said that trouble started when a policeman from Ojo Division, who was said to be in pursuit of a suspected felon, in an attempt to demobilize the vehicle, shot at the tyre of the fleeing car.

According to Amadin, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, the bullet missed its target and brushed through the arm of a passerby, causing instant tension and anger among some onlookers.

An attempt by miscreants to take advantage of the situation to foment trouble was averted, as the Police leadership employed a combination of Alternative Dispute Resolution and Community Policing tactics to calm frayed nerves.

The Police NCO has since been arrested and detained, pending the commencement of disciplinary procedures against him, while the injured citizen who was rushed to the hospital by the Police is receiving treatment.
