TWO Lebanese, who were kidnapped by a gang of gunmen on Wednesday June 24, 2015 at Onuebum in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have regained their freedom.

Ibrahim Abi Phrem and Sarkis Abi Chmooni were reportedly abandoned on Thursday June 25 by their kidnappers, during a hot chase by police, it was learnt.

The gunmen, numbering eight and armed with assault rifles, had taken them away in a speed boat after killing two policemen during an attack on a sand-dredging site at Onuebum.

The deceased policemen and the two Lebanese were attached to a construction firm, PACHE Nigeria Limited, working in the area.

The bandits fired gunshots repeatedly into the air, scaring indigenes and other dredging workers in the area who scampered for safety before they dragged their victims away.

The two policemen had tried to repel the attack but were overpowered by the volley of shots released by the armed men.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the release of the two Lebanese in a statement on Friday, June 26, 2015.

He said Ibrahim Abi Phrem and Sarkis Abi Chmooni were abandoned by their assailants at Okodi, another Ogbia community, following a hot chase by the police.

Butswat said the expatriates were hale and hearty and had been reunited with their families.
