The Enugu State Police Command has revealed details of how two students of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) allegedly strangled a United States based lady, Mrs. Stella Ohuo.

According to the account given to journalists by the Spokesman of the Command, Ebere Amaraizu in a statement on Sunday, on November 14, 2015, Ohuo allegedly contacted James Okoh, a final year Sociology student of the said university to pick her at Akanu Ibiam Airport Enugu and help her to deliver some luggage given to her by some friends in United States of America.

Amaraizu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said the deceased had known Okoh who hailed from Amata in Afikpo local government area of Ebonyi State for a long time as he normally assisted her in cab operations and other errands.

According to Amaraizu, on the said day, Okoh came to the Airport with his friend and a fellow student of EBSU, identified as Victor Uchenna Okefie in a volvo car alongside some family members of the arriving US based lady who came to welcome her.

The statement reads further: “On arrival at the airport,  personal luggage of the deceased was said to have been put in the car brought by the family while the ones to be taking to Abakaliki were loaded into the boot of the volvo car with registration number LAGOS EKY 855 CY.

It was further gathered that the family members had allegedly left with the personal luggage of the deceased while Okoh and Okefie left with the deceased and some luggage for Abakiliki.

Along the way, Okoh and Okefie diverted the car off the busy Enugu Abakiliki Expressway to a road side, off the expressway at about 10am on that fateful day and at that juncture it became obvious to the deceased that something was wrong.

To Okoh and Okefie that was a ripe time for them to execute their illicit plan of dispossessing the deceased of the entire luggage contained in the car” he said.

Amaraizu said it was when the victim attempted resistance that she was beaten by the two suspects until she eventually gave up the ghost.

The police spokesman said on seeing that the woman was dead, the two suspects quietly and smartly brought her to a dustbin located near Enugu/ Abakiliki Expressway and dumped her body there while they left with the luggage and carted away all the items contained therein including  some dollars, male cloths and ipads amongst others.

Amaraizu said the suspects had been at large since they committed the dastardly act until the operatives who have been on their trail recently nabbed them.

He said Okoh was nabbed on January, 29 2016 in his hostel at Ebonyi state while Okefie was trailed to his parents’ house at Ajaokuta in Kogi state on January 31, 2016 where he was nabbed.

Amaraizu said the suspects were regretting their murderous act, saying that it was not their intention to kill the woman but to collect the luggage and escape but her resistance made them to try to beat her up to make her weak and allow them have a smooth operation only for her to die in the process.

He said the police gathered that the deceased had been helping Okoh, one of the suspects for many years before this incident which made her to trust him to convey her as usual to Abakaliki, not knowing that he and his friend had perfected arrangement to rob and kill her.

“The police have commenced full scale investigation into the alleged incident just as the deceased dead body has been deposited in a nearby mortuary pending the conclusion of the investigation” Amaraizu said.
