The police have arraigned one Joy Peter and Divine Okoye of Masaka in Nasarawa State at a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.

Peter, aged 23 years, and Okoye, aged 25 years, both commercial sex workers of Meri-Jeo Hotel Masaka, were alleged to have conspired and stole some items from the home of a man who patronised them.

Police prosecutor, Francis Tanko, told the court that on April 8, one James Malu of Wuse 2 reported the matter at Wuse Police Station.

He said on April 5, Malu went to a night club where he met Peter and Okoye, and asked for their services which they obliged, and went home with him.

Tanko told the court that when the complainant went to use the rest room, the suspects stole his sandals, spare key of his car, house keys and N49,000 cash and took to their heels.

Tanko told the court that they were eventually arrested on April 8 and that the offence contravened sections 79 and 288 of Penal Code.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty.

Sequel to their plea of not guilty, the Magistrate, Mr Aminu Eri admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N20,000 and one surety each in like sum.

Eri also ordered that the surety must have fixed address within the jurisdiction of the court and evidence of payment of current house rent.
