More Super Eagles players initially scheduled to face Mali in a friendly match at the end of this month in France are pulling out.
The latest is William Troost-Ekong, whom reports said would miss the Mali tie owing to club engagements
Already, John Obi Mikel and Ahmed Musa have been excused by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to attend the Joseph Yobo testimonial match in Port Harcourt. This is even as Aaron Samuel was also forced out with injury, with the latest withdrawal being Troost-Ekong.
“Troost-Ekong has been excused for the Mali game on account of a crucial cup game involving his club on May 25. He is his club’s captain and the earliest he can join the Eagles will be on May 26, which effectively rules him out of the Mali game the next day,” a top official of the NFF was quoted as saying.
FK Haugesund will be away to Bodo/Glimt in the fourth round of the NM Cupen onWednesday, May 25.
Ekong, 22, first played for the Super Eagles in June 2015 in an African Nations Cup 2017 qualifier against Chad in Kaduna, where he performed well.
The defender, who is on loan at Norwegian club, Haugesund, from Belgian club, Gent, had represented the Netherlands at U-19 and U-20 levels, as he was born there and his mother is Dutch.
