The Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will begin hearing on the petition filed by Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate Mr Jimi Agbaje on the outcome of the April 11 gubernatorial elections today.

The three-man tribunal presided over by Muhammad Sirajo fixed the date on Monday.

The tribunal’s registrar who made this known also disclosed that hearing notices had been sent to all parties involved in the dispute.

The PDP candidate had petitioned the election tribunal challenging the declaration of Mr Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the April 11 gubernatorial polls.

The respondents in the suit are Ambode, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC and the INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Lagos State.

Some irregularities were alleged to have been noticed by Agbaje during the election, which contravened the provisions of INEC’s approved guidelines.

It will be recalled that the tribunal had on May 5, granted Agbaje leave to inspect all polling documents and machines used in the conduct of the election.

The tribunal also ordered for the provision of Certified True Copies of all polling documents, including printed data in each polling unit from the card reader machines, by INEC.

It however rejected Agbaje’s request to inspect the polling documents and devices used in the conduct of the March 28 Presidential Elections.

The tribunal also rejected Agbaje’s Freedom of Information request asking the tribunal to order INEC to produce all polling documents and card reader machines used for the governorship election.

According to the panel, the petitioner can request for materials and documents he deems necessary to his case, by way of subpoena, when the tribunal has fully commenced proceedings.
