Ambassador of China to Nigeria, Xiaojie Gu, announced on Tuesday that the trade volume between Nigeria and China has hit $14.9bn as of end of 2015.

Gu stated this in Abuja while addressing newsmen shortly after he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.

He said Nigeria remains China’s third biggest trading partner in Africa, adding that Nigeria is the second biggest market in terms of export in Africa.

He expressed optimism that the trade volume between the two countries would significantly improve against the backdrop that Nigeria is currently diversifying her economy.

He pointed out that there would be increased investments and co-operation in the areas of agriculture, mining and infrastructural development.

He further explained that Nigeria and China have been working assiduously to implement infrastructural projects in the country, particularly in the airport terminals.

He added that Chinese companies are executing the extension of four airport terminals in Nigeria, saying that Chinese government had approached China Exim Bank for the provision of infrastructural and concessionary loans to Nigeria.

While speaking with the Minister of Science and Technology, the Ambassador expressed joy on the proposed visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to his country in April, adding that the visit of the President would further cement the already strategic and mutual relations of both countries.
