There was palpable tension on the campus of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron at the weekend over an alleged assassination attempt on Mr. Kayode Folorunsho, the bursar of the academy, and three other persons.
Independent gathered that the assassination attempt caused panic as staff and students were scampered for safety.
Kayode told Independent in a telephone chat that he was on his way to Uyo in a convoy along College Road, Oron, with the Rector when unknown persons hurled bottles filled with sand at the windscreen of his car in a bid to force the convoy to stop.
It was gathered that other occupants of the car include: Engineer Jide Kupoluyi, Head of Works and Services; Engineer Wale Ogunsola, Chief Engineer and his official driver.
The Busar said the persons behind the act never showed up as his driver had to drive away faster for safety. He added that in addition to reporting to the police, he will be sending a formal letter of complaint to the Minister of Transport
”Before now, I have been receiving threat messages and phone calls from a particular phone number. I reported to the police and will forward a formal complaint to the Minister of Transport” he said.
When contacted on telephone, Mr Siddi Mkpandiok, spokesman of the academy, did not take the calls. A text message sent to him was also not replied as at the time of writing this report.
