Tottenham must win remaining matches – Kane

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has said the club will have to win its last seven games to qualify for the Champions League.

Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Burnley, which left the north Londoners seven points behind the top four, saw Kane captain the side for the first time.

He said he was refusing to give up hope of a top-four finish, adding: “We’ve still got to believe.

“We’ve made it tougher for ourselves but the Premier League is a funny league — anything can happen.

“We’ve just got to focus on each game as it comes and try to win them. There are seven games left, and we’ll probably have to get seven wins to have any chance.”

Kane, 21, became the youngest player to skipper a side in the Premier League this season when, with club captain Younes Kaboul, regular team captain Hugo Lloris and deputy Jan Vertonghen all absent, manager Mauricio Pochettino gave him the armband.

“It was a very proud moment for me and in my career,” the 29-goal forward said.

“To lead the lads out is obviously a special day, and a day I won’t forget. It was a disappointing performance, but we move on. I was honoured to be given the armband.”

Kane became the Premier League’s joint-top scorer when he registered a hat trick against Leicester, before scoring 79 seconds into his England debut against Lithuania and starting a first match for his country in the 1-1 draw against Italy.

He added: “It’s been an unbelievable couple of weeks and a very proud couple of weeks — my England debut and a goal, then to captain Tottenham as well.

“It’s been crazy, but that’s what you want as a player. You want to be making these achievements and I’m really happy to do that.”
