The decision by the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to fly the Super Eagles to Alexandria, Egypt aboard Egypt Air has been condemned by football stakeholders, who believe that Nigeria can afford a chartered flight to Egypt, the prevailing economic downturn notwithstanding.
Sani Toro, a former General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday warned that the decision may jeopardise the Nations Cup qualification chances.
Amaju Pinnick, President of the NFF, has linked the decision to the poor financial state of the federation.
Besides he reasoned that it would free about N35-N40 million that can be used to settle players’ bonuses and allowances.
But Toro insisted that it was not too late to reverse that decision which he said was capable of derailing the Nations Cup project.
“It is imperative for NFF, in conjunction with the Sports Minister to reconsider this position in the overall interest of Nigeria and football loving Nigerians, so that we do not gamble our chances of qualifying for the African Cup of Nations. Egypt has intimating and hostile Spectators/security.”
