Tipper crush two, injure others in Anambra

Two people were killed and several others injured at Awgbu, Orumba North local government area of Anambra State when a Tipper smashed into a market.

The dead identified as the dead were identified as Mrs Theresa Maduako, a Mango seller and an Okada rider, Mr Chinaza Okoye-Nta, both from Awgbu community.

The two persons feared dead were among those hawking mangoes and other fruits as well as Motorcycle riders known as Okada along the Awgbu –Umuawulu road at about 8:30 busy eke market Wednesday morning.

The dead were identified as Mrs Theresa Maduako , who was selling mangoes and an Okada rider , Mr Chinaza Okoye-Nta , both from Awgbu community.

It was gathered that the driver of the Tipper who was on high speed lost control and rammed into shops at Eke Awgbu market.

The truck with registration number Delta ASB 255 ZH was said to be carrying sand. Although the breaks of the Tipper was said to have failed, some eye witnesses blamed the accident on the driver’s recklessness.

An eye witness, Mr Sunny Okoye said the driver lost control of the tipper while he was trying to avoid a collision with a trailer off loading cement in one of the shops along the road, but skidded off its track and smashed into the market injuring many and killing two on the spot.

Another witness, Mr Cyril Okeke-Igbo said the tipper has brought misfortune to many as it destroyed over 10 generating sets, 500 Alumaco doors and windows parked in a shop as well as metal doors and other wielding equipment.

The Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer , Mr Uche  Ezeh confirmed the incident , but said the injured were rushed to Amaku General Hospital Awka  and other nearby hospitals for immediate medical attention.
