Thunder Balogun U-17 Soccer Tourney Gets August Date

Ahead of this year U-17 Thunder Balogun Soccer Fiesta billed for Campos Square on August, 15th, the family of the late soccer icon Akanni ‘Thunder’ Balogun will hold a one day memorial service for their late father at their family home in Lagos and Ikorodu respectively.

Speaking on behalf of ‘Thunder’ Balogun family, the eldest son of the soccer legend, Mr. Kayode Balogun a.k.a Zege said,  sportsmen and women, administrators, fans, sports organizations and other stakeholders of the round leather game have paid tributes.

The first tribute came from erstwhile chief Coach of Super Eagles Chief Adegboye Onigbinde.

Others include Chief Dr. Rafiu Ladipo (President General Nigeria Supporters Club), Alhaji Mufutau Kadiku (Former Chairman- Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area. Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele (Former Member House of Reps).

Mr. Balogun added that the foundation will continue to bankroll grassroots football tourneys under the ages of U-13, U-15 and U-17 boys and female soccer group.

Meanwhile, the newly promoted nationwide football outfit, a Lagos based football academy is charged with talents discoveries within Nigeria.

The late Tesilimi Thunder Balogun left a mark on his sports loving children who took over from him including ex-International striker, Lankey Thunde Balogun, Tokunbo Balogun, Kayode Balogun, Jibola Balogun and Bioye Balogun.

Zege as he’s fondly called by his admirers noted that their late father name will be immortalized and forever be remembered for his thunderbolt and cannon shots on targets for a very long time.

The Lagos State government led by governor Akinwunmi Ambode has confirmed the saying that the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain as he promised to take grassroots sports in the state to the next level.
