Thunder Balogun Trounce Leo In Opening Match

Teslimi “Thunder” Balogun Football Club of Ikorodu at the weekend defeated Leo Football Club also of Ikorodu 8-1 in the opening match of the 3rd edition of Tesilimi “Thunder” Balogun Memorial Cup 2015 U-17 Football Championship.

This year’s tournament kicked off on Saturday at Strong Tower Academy Playing Ground, Ikorodu with 32 teams were selected after thorough screening.

Teslimi Thunder Balogun Stadium, Lagos and Campus Square, Lagos are venues for the competition. The competition will come to a close in August this year.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the late Thunder Balogun Family Engr. Rasheed Olamide Balogun who doubles as the Club proprietor stated that, this year’s competition is set to celebrate their father and mentor, Late  Balogun the soccer impresario and to also remember their late mother Chief Mrs. Mulikat Tesilimi was instrumental to Thunder’s victories in football 17 years ago. According to him, the role of sports especially football in our modern and changing society is enormous saying that it is a unifying factor and can be viewed as a common tool for human development, it could also be likened to foundation for skills acquisition.

Ability to participate in both personal and social activities which are capable of contributing to national development in Nigeria as an added advantage.

Thunder Balogun junior as he’s fondly called was quick to add that the tourney was put together to immortalize their Late father Tesilimi Akanni “Thunder” Balogun as a result of successful competitions of last edition, this year’s edition will go beyond Ikorodu as matches will be played at campus square, Lagos and Strong Tower academy playing ground, Ikorodu respectively.

Announcing the cash prizes for  the  competition Balogun said that, the winner of the trophy will go home with the sum of N250,000, 2nd place team gets N120,000, 3rd will go home with N100,000 and 4th position will be richer with N75,000 and the four teams will be entitled to 4 brand new football each.
