Three men have been remanded in prison custody on the order of a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for illegal possession of firearms.

The men, who were detained on the order of Magistrate, Mrs Theresa Wergba are to remain behind bars till July 23.

The accused, Tyolumun Orseer, Terfu Shinayima and Yahaya Garba, are all residents of Makurdi.

The prosecutor, Insp. Edward Imo, had told the court that the accused were arrested by the police on May 27 for allegedly being in possession of firearms.

He said the case was reported at ‘B’ Division Police Headquarters, Makurdi, and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Bureau.

According to him, the accused were caught with a locally-made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition and a cutlass at Welfare Quarters, Makurdi.

Imo said the offences contravened Sections 6 (b) and 3 (1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act 2004. The case has been adjourned to July 23.
