Three In Police Net For Supposed Robbery

Three suspects, Nuru Aiyedun, a 30-year-old Geography graduate from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Suleiman Lawan 36 and Ishaku Hyelakuri 32, have been arrested by the Kaduna State Police Command for allegedly conspiring with others now at large to snatch a car belonging to Nuru’s uncle at the premises the Ahmad Bello University Zaria.

It was gathered that the trio had on Sunday 3rd of April, 2016, robbed their victim, Professor V O Ajibola, who is a Lecturer at the university, at gunpoint and also snatched his Mercedes Benz C300, his mobile phones and other valuables.

Luck however ran out on them when their victim raised an alarm that attracted the attention of some security agents attached to the quarters that eventually arrested and handed the suspects over to the Police.

When Independent visited the Special Anti Robbery Squad department of the Kaduna Police command, where the suspects were detained, they all confessed to the crime, but blamed devil and frustration for their action.

Nuru, who masterminded the crime, said he used to travel to Cotonou to buy goods for sale in Zaria, added that he was led into crime after he was robbed and his car and the goods stolen on one of his trips. This was what actually led me into this, “he said and added that he regretted his action.

“Yes we did what they are accusing us of. He is actually my uncle okay and we felt he can always get another car whenever. It was the devil that led me to that and I am already regretting my action. Look at the shame we have brought to our family.

“The name they have been maintaining before we were born. I seek their forgiveness and promise that if I’m out of here I will never involve in this form of crime again,” he pleaded.

Also confessing, Lawan, a welder, said he was lured into the crime by Nuru who told him that they were only going to collect the car from his elder brother.

According to him, “I don’t know anything about it. They just invited me to join them and take the car from his brother. I am into welding and fabrication and was at work when Nuru came to invite me to go and have a drink.

“It was after we had finished drinking that we moved to Samaru and now we are here.”

The third accused person, Ishaku, a Geologist who also said he graduated from ABU, said he has been an applicant since graduation. He equally said he regretted his action and pleaded for forgiveness.

Police Spokesman in Kaduna, DSP Zubairu Abubakar who confirmed the incident said that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as the police was done with investigation.
