The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned the suspects before the Federal High Court, Lokoja, Kogi State, on a three-count charge bordering on illegal dealing in crude oil.

The suspects, Bernard Efe Omoaiwua, Osahenruwen Osaguona and Osaro Arasowman, were brought before the court president, Justice Phoebe Ayua, by the commission after they were arrested by officers of Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, along the Lokoja-Abuja? expressway in charge of three truckloads of crude oil with no license or proper documentation.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.

Counsel to the EFCC, Steve Odiase, asked the court for a date to commence trial. However, the defence counsel, S. Amodu, told the court that he had a pending application for the bail of the accused. ?Odiase objected, arguing that he needed time to respond formally. Justice Ayua ordered the accused persons to be remanded in Koton-Karfe Prison and adjourned the matter to May 26 for hearing of the bail application.
