Godwin Obaseki, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, on Monday assured teachers across the 18 local government areas of the state that his promises to them and the entire people of the state are his bond which he must adhere to if elected governor of the state.

Obaseki, who spoke at an interactive session with the teachers under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), commended the union for the privilege of meeting with them, saying he will not take the opportunity for granted.

The APC candidate stressed that when elected governor a frequent teacher’s conference will be held to address the problems of teachers in the state and design a suitable curriculum for the educational system, promising that all primary and more secondary schools in all 18 council areas will be refurbished.

He assured that the importance of teachers in the society is valuable and as such must be well taken care of.

He explained that he got involved in Edo politics when the decay caused by the PDP administration became unbearable for those living in and outside the state.

According to him, “If the situation in Edo was like it was in 2007, I will not be who I am today. I didn’t know things were worse than what I thought until we got to Government House.

“We have a long way to go, by the grace of God, in my four-year term I will refurbish our entire primary and more secondary schools because we must start to get our beginning right.

“By the grace of God, when I am elected governor, we will sit down, engage and talk about things in specific and concrete terms. How we train and retrain our teachers to have a solid education will be my priority.

“So for me I have come to say we have started a process, we started a revolution in Edo State but that is just phase one but the real revolution will be sitting with you and addressing all your problems and affecting the educational system positively in the state. You are the teachers, you teach us, we can’t teach you.”

Obaseki also emphasised the need for the people to vote the APC to continue the current development in the state, adding, “Someone who has not partaken in the building of government can’t do anything for the people”.

He, however, assured that “by the tradition we have, we will be transparent and clear in all our dealings. I have come to say this is me; I want to assure you that I have heard you very clearly. I am going to sit down with you at the senatorial and state level and proffer solutions to the various problems. I am a listening governor, I am going to sit with you and make a decision and those decisions are going to be kept because my words are my bond”.
