Things you probably didn’t know about Jenifer Aniston

Having been the one-time crush of pretty much every man on the planet for at least a short period of time (many of whom still see her as a Goddess), Jennifer Aniston is a true Hollywood great and a sex symbol of the highest order. She’s also marked out a neat position for herself in the business, making her one of a small number of women in the industry who – well into their 40s – has a place firmly carved out.

But given her inherent talents and unrivalled affability, is it all that surprising that Aniston continues to thrive in Hollywood?

Best known for her high-profile relationship with Brad Pitt and for her flawless turn as Rachel Green on TV’s immortal sitcom Friends, Aniston also happens to be a comedy actress with faultless comic timing, a beautiful specimen to end all beautiful specimens, and a super down-to-Earth person who doesn’t take her career (or life) all too seriously. She’s also engaged to actor Justin Theroux (very cool) – and rumour has it that they’re even expecting a baby.

You know her work, of course, and you’ve spent countless hours watching her working that Rachel magic on those Friends reruns, but how much do you know about Jennifer Aniston as a person? Here are 10 things that you probably weren’t all that aware of; a selection of interesting factoids about this particularly brilliant actress that will enhance your knowledge of all things Aniston, starting with

Though Jennifer Aniston is perhaps best known for her turn as Rachel Green on best sitcom ever Friends, it might surprise you to learn that she was originally brought in as a potential choice to play the role of – would you believe it? – Monica Gellar.

That’s right: it was very much almost a thing that Aniston could have ended up playing sister to David Schwimmer’s Ross instead of his all-time love interest. Weird, huh? Thankfully, things worked out a whole lot differently. In Aniston’s own words:

“They wanted Courteney [Cox] to play Rachel. And unbeknownst to each other, I wanted to play Rachel and she wanted to play Monica. It worked out perfectly.”

It’s not at all surprising that Jennifer Aniston was once offered a gig on Saturday Night Live. After all, she has a real talent for comedy and her timing is impeccable – you can certainly imagine her working wonders on the show as a member of the permanent cast.

And indeed, she was offered a spot on SNL by none other than Lorne Michaels prior to catching her big break with NBC’s Friends – an offer she turned down because she felt like the show was something akin to “a boy’s club,” which certainly isn’t the case nowadays, given all the female talent.

But it’s a good thing she turned down said offer, otherwise she wouldn’t have ended up in one of the most beloved sitcoms of all-time as its arguably most beloved character. A far more lucrative deal than anything Lorne Michaels could have given her, then, for sure.

It sounds crazy, but it’s totally true: one of TV’s most famous detectives, Kojak, was actually Jennifer Aniston’s godfather up until his untimely death in 1994.

That’s to say the actor who played him, Telly Savalas, was one of Aniston’s father’s best friends, and was bestowed with the honour when little Jennifer was born. John Aniston, Jennifer’s dad, is also an actor in his own right, and has been a regular on Days Of Our Lives since 1985 (which makes its inclusion on Friends as a regular plot element even more hilarious).

Bonus trivia… because why not? Jennifer’s surname is actually Anastasakis. Her grandfather, who was Greek, changed it when the family moved to the United States in 1935. Probably a good idea, to be entirely honest, given that there’s no telling how to pronounce that thing. Seriously: where do you start with a word like that?

Jennifer Aniston has topped the polls across numerous “Woman of the Year” lists over the span of her prosperous career, but “Sexiest Woman of All-Time”? Well, that’s quite the achievement, isn’t it? You’ve got to be something seriously special to find yourself branded was such a title – embracing the honour of being the sexiest woman to have ever lived is no easy feat, after all.

And yet Jennifer managed it back in 2011, when – at 41-years-old – the readers of Men’s Health magazine voted her as such.

Yes, she beat out a number of insanely sexy contenders in order to take the crown – including the woman who supposedly stole her husband back when that was a thing – one Angelina Jolie. Must’ve been a hell of an ego boost to wake up to find you’ve been declared the sexiest woman of all-time, huh?

Despite its standing as one of the most influential haircuts of the 90s and its trademark association with Jennifer Aniston and her character on Friends, Aniston has admitted that – in actuality – she hated “The Rachel” to death. Like, really.

Aniston blames hair stylist Chris McMillan for the dirty deed:

“How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen. What I really want to know is: how did that thing have legs? I love Chris [McMillan], and he’s the bane of my existence at the same time because he started that damn Rachel, which was not my best look.”

You’re welcome to you an opinion, Jennifer, but don’t say bad things about “The Rachel.” That haircut was totally freakin’ awesome and you know it.
