The forgotten DG?

Firstly, this is not like a bad wish or prayer for one’s misfortune or downfall. It’s a true life story as our Nollywood brothers would appropriately tag it and, pronto, a new movie is made!

Incidentally, the story dwells on a Nollywood monitor who, unfortunately, appears to have forgotten the needs of an industry she is entrusted with for quite some time now. And consequently, it returns to its inglorious days in terms of ‘’anything can go’’.

Ms Patricia Bala, the Director-General of the National Films and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) comes to mind here. When last did we notice or hear something new from the board? Perhaps, in 2014, during the “Half of a Yellow Sun’’ brouhaha that almost silenced the movie. What other action?

In fact some industry players and observers confessed that they’ve almost forgotten about the existence of the NFVCB. You can see that pornographic movies and musical videos have gone on rampage again.

However, there was a ray of hope last week. Ms Bala was in Lagos and requested to meet with news hounds. But guess what, in-between the parley which started before the scheduled time, the woman feigned illness and that was it! Thus, the situation remained the same thereafter. Reporters who answered what was to be a clarion call left there more confused, their precious time equally wasted.

Just imagine. At a time ‘’change’’ recently swept away others not too far from her domain, technocrats whose only offence was that ‘’they were Jonah’s men’’. As if they are not Nigerians!
