The Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON) has advised the Federal Government to establish a Nigerian based Technical Cyber Security Team comprising industrial security experts, citizens and stakeholders to help combat terrorism and increase of crime in the country.

The association made this call at their just concluded two-day conference at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

The event was attended by top military officers, law enforcement officers, members of the diplomatic corps, academicians, private security practitioners and members of the public.

According to a security expert who was also one of the organisers of the conference, Dr Ona Ekhomu, there are many things our system is lacking that is supposed to help in combating crime.”This conference was held pursuant to the tradition of AISSON to organize annually, a national security conference. The conference provides a platform for security professionals (public and private) and other stakeholders to analyze important security issues, problems, challenges and proffer solutions to them” he said.

After the two-day deliberations, many recommendations were made considering the security challenges the country is currently facing.

Some of the recommendations stated that The Security system of Nigeria needs urgent change in order to meet emerging challenges and threats.

Civilian/Military Cooperation (CIMIC) should be adopted as the model for the management of complex asymmetric conflicts.

The Nigerian military should enlarge and expand its hearts and minds programs in order to gain cooperation from those communities facing terrorist and insurgent attacks.

More so, that Nigeria should establish a national crime reporting toll free phone line like 911 for the entire country.

Also, Nigeria should establish a Naija Technical Cyber Security Team comprising industrial security experts, citizens, stakeholders, security agencies in order to protect the country against cyber threats including cyber terrorism.

The governments at all levels and security stakeholders should increase civic education and re-orientation of the citizenry in order to effectively combat security threats in Nigeria, amongst others.

The recommendations were approved by the chairman of the conference, HRH (Amb) Adegboyega C. Ariyo, The Onibala of Ibala Ijesha.
