The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has restored some critical facilities designed to effectively transmit electricity to distribution companies in the country.

Abubakar Atiku, the Managing Director of TCN, made this known in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

He said that the restoration of the equipment was part of efforts to fast track delivery of efficient and cost effective power to Nigerians.

Atiku said that some of the equipment included the 75 MX reactor in Lokoja, Kogi State, and the 60 MVA transformer at Okene which was down for three months.

He also listed the restoration of the second 330KV line from Shiroro to Katampe in Abuja which was also down for more than two months.

“The 60 MVA Transformer was restored back at Owerri transmission station after one month of outage and a newly installed 60 MVA transformer at Okene transmission station,” he said.

He said that two additional 60 MVA transformers were also commissioned at Akangba transmission station in Lagos.

The managing director said that the transmission stations in the country have been stable.

He said that it was on record that when the new management took over, more than 20 major equipment comprising transformers, reactors and transmission lines were out of service.

On the company’s 2016 budget, Atiku said that N30 billion was approved, and already N9 billion had been released for its services.

He said the company would execute 22 critical projects in the 2016 to boost power transmission in the country.
