Operators of taxi cabs popularly known as ‘Comrade Cabs’ in Benin –City have commended Governor Adams Oshiomhole for removing the sum of N850,000 from the total cost of N2.8million for the vehicle sold to them, saying that the removal would enable owners upset the payment within three years.

It would be recalled that following the ban on commercial motor-cycles as means of transportation in Benin metropolis and its environs, the state government purchased the cabs for the ex-Okada riders to enable them to be gainfully employed.

A statement in Benin on Monday by the group under the aegis of Edo State Comrade Cabs Operators Association and signed by Comrades Ike Peter (Chairman) and Julius Odiboh also expressed gratitude to the state governor for providing the vehicles to them which they said have assisted them in taking care of their families.

“We however appeal to him to fulfill his earlier promise to open a motor park for us to make works easier as it is being enjoyed by operators of the Comrade buses.”

“We also beg Governor Oshiomhole to kindly look into the lease agreement between the leasing company C & I Leasing Company and operators of the Comrade Cabs which had insisted that the total sum for the vehicle is N2.8million as against the sum of N2million as approved by the governor”, the statement said.

The cab operators who said that they were not comfortable with the term, “Drivers” in the agreement as directed by the governor, wants the name change to “Owners of Cabs” in the agreement.

The association however pledged their loyalty and support to Governor Oshiomhole in his quest to develop Edo state economically and politically.
