The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State further lost ground on Friday as a member of the seventh National Assembly, Warman Weri Ogoriba, dumped the party for the All  Progressives Congress (APC).

He defected to the APC at a brief ceremony in Yenagoa, presided over by leader of the party and former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva.

Ogoriba, who represented Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma federal constituency at the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2015, defected to the APC with his political family.

Present at the event were former security officer to the then Governor Goodluck Jonathan, Major Oputa, former deputy governor to Sylva, Werinipre Seibarugu, former acting governor of the state, Nestor Binabo, member of the state House of Assembly, Sunny Goli, former Ambassador to Venezuela, Felix Oboro, and APC state chairman, Tiwei Orunimighe, among other dignitaries.

Last month, former Chief of Staff to Governor Seriake Dickson, Diekivie Ikiogha, led his followers to the APC at a similar ceremony in the state capital.

Receiving Ogoriba, Sylva expressed satisfaction with the consistent cross-carpeting of PDP members to the APC.

He said, while he was governor, Abuja attacked him from all angles, “and even from Otuoke.”

Sylva, who handed brooms, the party’s symbol, to Ogoriba and others, said the APC would take over Bayelsa at the next governorship election, slated for December 5, 2015.

He took a swipe at the Dickson administration describing it as “a dead government,” and urged the people of the state to “join the APC boat,” which he boasted was poised  to dislodge Dickson.

“The broom is the symbol of unity. When we are together, they cannot break it. This is the symbol of APC to sweep out bad government,” he said.

Sylva disclosed that the party would on July 25 hold a rally at Dickson’s local government area, Sagbama, where defectors from the PDP in Bayelsa West Senatorial District would be formally received.
